Easter Cruise & Marple Rally, 9th - 12th April
2004.
The Easter Cruise coincided with the Marple Rally to commemorate 30 years since the reopening of the Cheshire Ring. The event was sponsored by the IWA Northern Region. Boats taking part gathered at Marple on Friday when in the afternoon a new fingerpost was unveiled to commemorate the work of the late Ted Keaveney who was instrumental in getting the 16 lock Marple flight reopened in 1974. On Friday evening boaters gathered in the British Legion forces club where entertainment was provided. The following day there was a walk to the Roman Lakes near Marple followed by another evening of entertainment in the British Legion.
